May 3: After a violent struggle between residents of San Salvardor Atenco defending their neighboring flower-growers in Texcoco threatened with eviction, the EZLN announces its unconditional support for the Atenco resistance, declares its forces on red alert, closes the Caracoles in Chiapas, and implements an alternative line of command should happen to Subcomandante Insurgente Marcos. |

May 4: Police invade San Salvador Atenco, savagely beating anyone in site, including community members, press, and international observers, raping or sexually abusing women, and taking hundreds of prisoners. May 5: 5,000 people march peacefully into San Salvador Atenco, where Marcos declares suspended the EZLN's participation in all activities of the Other Campaign and that he will remain in Mexico City until all political prisoners are released. |
