Members of El Kilombo Intergaláctico gathered in honor of International Workers’ Day on Friday, May 1st, 5pm on the corner of Roxboro Road and Club Boulevard. We joined millions throughout the country once again in the tradition of demanding migrant rights on May Day. In 2006, over 1.5 million people took part in May Day demonstrations in what amounted to one of the single largest days of protest in US history; many also participated in a general strike by refusing to conduct business, go to work, or attend school. This year, community members have decided it is important to hold a rally in Durham once again demanding migrant rights, and taking a stand against the unjust 287(g) agreement implemented in North Carolina, and against the raids of workplaces and homes.
