ONE MONTH SINCE THE REPRESSION IN ATENCO…
Compañeros y compañeras
The compañer@s from San Salvador Atenco and La Otra Campaña have
been behind bars for one month. During this time thousands of people from many
parts of the world have mobilized to demand their freedom.
Since the 3 of May, the day that the brutal repression was initiated in Texcoco
and Atenco, actions were organized in repudiation of the violence presided over
by the government of Vicente Fox and in solidarity with the comrades imprisoned.
People from America, Europe and Oceania have taken to the streets and exclaimed
their indignation. In one month, 48 Mexican diplomatic institutions have been
the target of demonstrations and sit-ins. The world demands explanations for
the barbarous crimes committed, even if the ambassadors and consul representatives
hide, respond with insults to the protesters or maintain their indifference.
To the unanimous cry, We are all Atenco! in one month there has been reported
149 mobilizations in at least 64 cities of 27 countries around the world.
The countries are: Argentina, Ecuador, El Salvador, Costa Rica, Chile, Canada,
Colombia, Venezuela, Bolivia, United States, Brazil, Cuba, Martinique, Basque
Country, Austria, Germany, Spain, Sweden, France, Denmark, Greece, Italy, Switzerland,
United Kingdom, Norway, Belgium and New Zealand.
Cities were at least one protest has been reported: San Diego, San Francisco,
New York, Washington, Los Angeles, La Puente, Riverside, Santa Ana, San Diego,
Houston, Sacramento, Boston, Chicago, Minneapolis, Tucson, Portland, San Antonio,
Albuquerque, Montreal, Vancouver, Bogotá, Quito, Caracas, San Salvador,
Buenos Aires, Rosario, Bahía Blanca, Mar del Plata, Brasilia, Cochabamba,
Santiago, San José, Havana, Managua; Stockholm, Bilbao, Barcelona, Madrid,
Munich, Munster, Heidelberg, Berlin, Frankfurt, Paris, Toulouse, Burdeos, Athens,
Volos, Venice, Rome, Mestre-Marghera, Bologna, Naples, Milan , London, Oslo,
Copenhagen, Vienna, Salzburg; Berne, Zurich, Genevieve, Lugarno, Liege, and
Wellington.
As well as a (waterfall) of messages in solidarity with the political prisoners
has been sent to the Zezta Internazional email from: Palestine Turkey, Basque
Country, Greece, Spain, Italy, Germany, France, Austria, Denmark, Belgium; and
from Argentina, Puerto Rico, Canada, Peru, Brazil, Guatemala, Dominican Republic,
Bolivia, Venezuela, United States, Cuba, and Chile.

There are still around 30 comrades imprisoned, many of them on hunger strikes.
The people of Mexico continue to mobilize for their freedom, as well as thousands
of brothers and sisters around the world.
San Salvador Atenco is not alone!
Actions planned for the following days
June 4
Italy. More than 50 Italian groups and collectives are organizing a musical
and solidarity camp in front of the Mexican Consulate in Milan to denounce the
repression by the Mexican Government in San Salvador Atenco and to demand the
freedom of all political prisoners.
June 6
Switzerland. The Swiss Mexican Union, an organization of Mexicans residing in
this country, announced the transmission of a zapatista radio program, “La
Flor de la Palabra”, dedicated to inform people about the situation in
Atenco.
June 9
Canada. With the objective of raising funds for the legal defense of the political
prisoners from Atenco and to fight for their freedom, collectives and individuals
from “La Otra Vancouver” and collectives in solidarity with Atenco
are organizing an event for this day.
June 17
Switzerland. During the Immigrants Rights March in Berne, collectives from “La
Otra Internazional in Switzerland” will hand over a letter to the Mexican
embassy in that country, in protest of the repression in Atenco.
June 18
Spain. A concert will be celebrated in Barcelona for Atenco and La Otra Campaña
with the participation of Manu Chao and Amparanoia.
Recent Actions
June 2
Nicaragua. The Zapatista Solidarity Committee of Nicaragua calls for an action
in front of the Mexican Embassy in Managua. They will present a communiqué
to the embassy and disseminate information regarding the repression in Atenco.
June 1
Greece. Direct Action on the streets of the city of Volos. Comrades from the
collective “En Comun” placed banners on avenues and passed out flyers
with information regarding the repression in Atenco.
Switzerland. Protests against the repression in Atenco in front of the Mexican
consulates in the cities of Zurich, Genevieve and Lugarno.
Germany. Protest in front of the Mexican Consulate in Frankfurt. Activists from
the collective “anti-system café” passed out flyers informing
people of the repression in Atenco and they read out loud in front of the diplomatic
representation the testimonies of the women, victims of the police violence.
