FIRST REPORT ON THE INTERNATIONAL MOBILIZATIONS FOR ATENCO OF MAY 28

Compañeros y compañeras
For the freedom of all our compañer@s imprisoned from San Salvador Atenco
and La Otra Campaña, for the punishment of those responsible for the
repression and in repudiation of the Mexican government headed by Vicente Fox,
today, there were various mobilizations held in the cities of Rome, Berlin,
Toronto, Vancouver, Havana, Buenos Aires, Mar de Plata, and San Francisco.
These actions form part of those already held since the 3 and 4 of May, the
days when the Mexican government launched its brutal repression against the
Peoples Front in Defense of the Land (FPDT, acronym in Spanish), and by so doing,
against La Otra Campaña.
Till today, there have been at least 128 mobilizations in 54 cities of 26 countries,
demonstrating that “San Salvador Atenco is not alone” and that “We
are all Atenco” in every part of the world.
International Day of Action the 28 of May (First part)
Italy. The Lista Roma Arcobaleno, composed of different movements, associations
and civil society, participated in the electoral process in Rome wearing a T-shirt
with “We are all Atenco” written on the front side and information
regarding the repression that took place on the back.
Canadá. Demonstration in Vancouver to demand an end to the repression
of La Otra Campaña in all of México. The protest took place at
the Art Gallery, (on Robson St. Between Howe and hornby) where “with joy,
creativity and ingenuity we made our condemnation heard”.
Canadá. March in Toronto for the freedom of all political prisoners of
Atenco, to the cry of "No one is illegal. Status for All". Organized
by the Committee in solidarity with the victims of violence of San Salvador
Atenco.
Cuba. During a concert of a very popular group of Cuban music, flyers were handed
out with information about the events that took place in Atenco and the support
of peoples around the world to their cause. Organized by La Otra Habana, an
EZLN support group in Cuba.
Argentina. Surprise action in a plaza in the city of Rosario, as part of the
international mobilizations for the political prisoners of Atenco. Organized
by the Chiapas Solidarity Network of Rosario, Argentina.
Argentina. Special radio program in solidarity with Atenco and La Otra Campaña,
transmitted from FM La Tribu, in Buenos Aires.
Argentina. Compañer@s from Mar de Plata organized an action-urban ritual
with the title of The Open Veins of Latin America, accompanied by a recital
and a street theater performance called “The March”. Everything
to demand the freedom of the compañer@s from Atenco.
Argentina. “For the Atenco and Mapuche political prisoners, and for all
who struggle”, we organize a day of action against the repression of the
peoples of the world in Lezama Park, in Buenos Aires. Called for by Mapuche
communities and organizations, Chiapas Solidarity Networks, Adherents to the
Sixth Declaration of the Lacandon Jungle, Anarkistas Varixs, Student Groups,
University students, social-artistic-political autonomous collectives and people
of truth.
United States. At the 24th street station of the Mission, San Francisco, banners
were placed, an information table set up and a sawdust mural was done on the
floor in honor of the struggle, resistance and heroism of the people of Atenco.
Organized by the Caracol of the Mission.
Alemania. Demonstration in solidarity with the political prisoners of Atenco
and La Otra Campaña in Berlin.
Mobilizations Organized for the Following Days
29 of May
Chile. The compañer@s from the Eduardo Galeano Social University and
the Chilean Zapatista Solidartiy Committee called for a mobilizations in front
of the Mexican Embassy in Chile. In this action denouncing the police violence,
Valentina Palma will be present. She was the Chilean Student expelled from México
after the events of Atenco. They will turn in a letter of protest to the Ambassador
of Mexico.
Spain. The Liberation collective of Murcia, calls for a demonstration in solidarity
with those detained from Atenco, in the Santo Domingo Plaza. They will also
collect signatures for a letter that will be turned in to the Mexican consulate
where the protest will relocate to.
International Initiative. From the 29 of May to the 4 of June, 31 individuals
approved by the International Civil Commission for Human Rights (CCIODH, acronym
in Spanish), originating from 7 different countries will be compiling information
regarding the police repression in San Salvador Atenco.
30 of May
Costa Rica. Protest in front of the Mexican Embassy in San Jose. We invite people
to bring a red bandana as a symbol of protest and solidarity with the compañer@s
imprisoned from Atenco.

the people of Atenco and in repudiation of the repression directed by the Mexican
