Communiqué
from the Indigenous Revolutionary Clandestine Committee—
General Command of the Zapatista Army for National Liberation
Sixth Commission of the EZLN
MEXICO
September 13, 2006.
To the adherents of the Sixth and the Other Campaign
To the People of MexicoCompañeros y compañeras:
During the past months of July and August, the Sixth Commission of the EZLN
has carried out a series of consultations and contacts with diverse organizations,
groups, collectives, families, and individuals, all adherents of the Sixth Declaration
of the Lacandón Jungle and the Other Campaign. With the results from
these consultations, we sent an evaluation and a proposal to our compañer@s
indigenous commanders of the EZLN.
Having received the authorization of the CCRI-CG of the EZLN, the Sixth Commission
will begin to make public in the next few days a series of analyses, considerations,
and proposals. In these texts, the Sixth Commission of the EZLN will provide
a review of the antecedents that gave rise to the Sixth Declaration of the Lacandón
Jungle, a summary of the Other Campaign at one year since its inception, an
analysis of the electoral fraud that culminated in the imposition of PAN candidate
Felipe Calderón as president of Mexico, our critical position on the
mobilization against this roguishness, as well as a proposal to all of the adherents
of the Other Campaign on the following steps for this struggle we have taken
on together.
For now we want to communicate a first resolution made based on this consultation
and our evaluation.
First: With the demand for liberty and justice for our compañer@s political
prisoners of Atenco, the Sixth Commission of the EZLN will reinforce its solidarity
presence in the capital of the country while simultaneously restarting the journey
that had been suspended, visiting the 11 states in the north of the Mexican
Republic where we have not yet been in order to listen to the “compas”
from these lands.
Second: In order to do this, a group of [men and women] commanders from the
CCRI-CG of the EZLN/ Sixth Commission will relocate to Mexico City in order
to relieve Delegate Zero so that he can finish the suspended journey. While
Delegate Zero travels to the north of the country promoting the struggle for
the liberation of our “compas” and listening to the word of the
Other in these places, the commanders will stay in and around Mexico City, attentive
to the situation of the prisoners from Atenco and participating, when possible,
in the activities carried out in demand of their liberation.
Third: The journey to be reinitiated will attend primarily to meetings with
adherents and indigenous peoples in the states and regions, although we do not
discard participation in public acts that are agreed upon by adherents and the
Sixth Commission of the EZLN. News of the aggression against Atenco and the
situation of the prisoners will be diffused everywhere.
Fourth: Roughly speaking, the journey will restart October 9th of this year
with the following itinerary:
Sinaloa (Escuinapa, Mazatlán, Culiacán and Los Mochis); then by
maritime transport to Baja California Sur (La Paz and possibly Los Cabos); then
by highway to Baja California Norte (Ensenada, Tijuana, Mexicali, meeting with
the Other Campaign on the Other Side and at some point visiting the compas of
the National Indigenous Congress-Northeast: the Kumiai, Cucapa, Triquis and
Mixteco Indigenous peoples); from there to Sonora (Santa Ana, Hermosillo, Guaymas-Empalme,
Ciudad Obregón and along the way meeting up with the Papago, Seri, Mayo,
Yaqui and Pima indigenous peoples who also belong to the National Indigenous
Congress-Northeast); afterwards, from Los Mochis to the Sierra Tarahumara in
Chihuahua by train, so that we can meet with the Raramuri members of the CNI;
next, continue by train to Chihuahua, then by highway to Ciudad Juarez and Parral;
then to the Region Lagunera in Coahuila and Durango; afterwards we’ll
head to various points in the state of Zacatecas; from there to San Luis Potosi,
the capital and the highlands; next to Monterrey and Linares in Nuevo Leon,
afterwards to Saltillo, Monclova and Pasta de Conchos in Coahuila, followed
by Matamoros, Ciudad Victoria and the southwest of Tamaulipas; from there to
the Huasteca Potosina where we’ll finish our national tour and return
to Mexico City (tentatively in the last days of the month of November).
Fifth: The itinerary is based on the proposals for activities which were submitted
to us by the adherents in each state or region before the shameful acts in San
Salvador Atenco May 3rd and 4th of this year. Details on the dates and routes
will be released when possible, as we are still looking at the routes and the
highway conditions; these will be communicated to the adherents in the states
of the North of Mexico and the Other on the Other Side.
Sixth: This decision of the CCRI-CG of the EZLN and the Sixth Commission has
already been considered and approved by the compañer@s of the People’s
Front in Defense of the Land, who were attacked, along with other compas of
the Other, the 3rd and 4th of May 2006, by federal and state of Mexico government
forces. The compañer@s from Atenco have expressed that they are in agreement.
