Convocation to Mobilize the May 7 and 8
Convocation to mobilize May 7 and 8
May 2011
To all organizations, collectives, and individuals of the Other Campaign in the Federal District, the State of Mexico, Puebla, and Tlaxcala.
To all of the men and women of good hearts.
Rooted in the cowardly murder of Juan Francisco Sicilia Ortega, Luis Antonio Romero Jaime, Julio César Romero Jaime, and Gabriel Alejo Escalera, a wave of rage and indignation has arisen against that which is supposed to provide security for the population: the Mexican State.
Four years after Felipe Calderón declared war on organized crime, the panorama that looms over our country is of desolation, death, and fear. This war, made to gain a legitimacy that it has never had, has meant the death of 40,000 Mexicans already, many of them baptized under the infamous name of “collateral damage.”
Not only have the objectives of this war not been achieved, but the landscape it has drawn is that of a country scorched by devastation.
We cannot allow our young people to continue being drug to their deaths.
We cannot allow acceptance of a State of Exception in Mexico.
We cannot allow Felipe Calderón to continue to throw thousands of Mexican homes into mourning, many of whose family member’s names we do not even know.
We cannot allow the continued destruction of the social fabric of peoples, communities, neighborhoods, schools, and families, all of them central targets of this war.
We cannot allow the nation to be destroyed.
Because of all this and more, the signatories below call upon all members of the Other Campaign to mobilize Saturday May 7 at 12 noon for a rally in the hemiciclo of Benito Juárez with the following themes:
STOP CALDERON’S WAR!
NO MORE BLOOD!
WE’RE FED UP WITH…!
(where everyone finishes the phrase with their particular demands)
after which a series of brigades will be formed to distribute flyers inviting people to a march on May 8.
For May 8 we extend an invitation to participate in a march of silence starting from the Monument to the Revolution in order to join the grand march that will be leaving from Ciudad Universitaria. We will meet at 12 noon at the Monument to the Revolution.
For a Mexico with Democracy, Justice, and Liberty.
